Jesper Pedersen, composer, performer and educator based in Reykjavik.
Jesper has been developing experimental works that mixes digital technology and interactive media with acoustic musical instruments through the use of real time software driven animated notation. In many of his works for acoustic instruments the visual and performative aspects of the pieces are as important as the audible. Some works are conceptual in nature, often with a sense of playfulness and humor. Other works are pure electroacoustic music, sound art or installation.
His works have been performed internationally by the S.L.Á.T.U.R. collective, GP&PLS (Goodiepal & Pals), Duo Harpverk, Ensemble Adapter, Ensemble U, The Icelandic Flute Ensemble, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Ilan Volkov, Katie Buckley, Ingólfur Vilhjámsson, Áshildur Haraldsdóttir and Tinna Þorsteinsdóttir at festivals including the Tectonics Festival, Nordlichter Biennale, Spor Festival, OpenDays, Rainy Days, Summartónar, Raflost, Geiger, Sláturtíð, Dark Music Days and Nordic Music Days.
In recent years Jesper has been focusing on live performance on modular synthesizer and computer. He performs both solo and within different collaborations such as Resterne af Rigsfællesskabet (FO/GL/DK/IS). His solo sets are mainly improvised and focuses on creating slow moving abstract ambient sound environments, textures and drones that envelop the audience in surround sound.
Jesper holds an MA in Music Technology from Aalborg University in Denmark. He is an adjunct lecturer in electronic music composition at the Iceland University of the Arts and teaches computer music at the Kópavogur Music School. He is a part of the Icelandic composers collective S.L.Á.T.U.R.
